Two upcoming Kickstarter campaigns were announced over the weekend that have me incredibly excited!
Adventure Time: Card Wars 10th Anniversary
First up, is the 10th Anniversary edition of a TCG that I’ve been dying to get some organized-play events going for: Adventure Time: Card Wars! Given that this game is supposed to be a parody of overly-complex TCGs, it’s rather incredible that Cryptozoic was able to create a very accessible, family-weight TCG that still captures the flavor of the game played in the TV show. While B-MO refuses to play it with Jake, this is one of the few TCGs I can convince my wife to play with me!
My collection of cards, though, is quite underwhelming. I’m missing several of the later decks that were released, and I haven’t even tried, yet, to get a playset of everything. So, I’m excited to see what bundles are offered in this campaign.
I’ve also been extremely frustrated by Cryptozoic’s use of card errata, without a centralized FAQ document to catalogue changes. So, I’m hoping this campaign will include better documentation. Ideally, we might even see a re-print of the original strategy guide, which has been extremely difficult to track down online!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness
This one is particularly meaningful for my family, as we lost my brother-in-law, Milo, last year. He was a huge fan of both TMNT and tabletop RPGs. Seeing this announcement made me want to immediately break out my sourcebooks and put together a family campaign for this excellent (if a bit complex) 1990s TTRPG from Palladium. I’m also looking forward to seeing if this campaign has any exciting new perks for longtime fans that already own the game and all its expansions.
